How To Measure
Learn how to measure your windows for made-to-measure plantation shutters. Follow our step-by-step guide before entering dimensions into the Made4You configurator.
Before you start
Accurate measurements are the foundation of a successful shutter order. Take your time, follow the guide for your window type and keep your measurements in millimetres.
You'll also need to provide clear photographs of the opening so our shutter expert can review the specification before manufacture.

What you'll need
- Metal tape measure.
- Pen and paper or your phone.
- A step ladder where safely required.
- A phone or camera for the required photographs.
- Your room name and a simple reference for each window.

Record the basics
For every window, note:
- Room name.
- Your window reference.
- Window type.
- Whether the shutter will sit inside or outside the recess.
- Width and height in millimetres.
- Any relevant notes about the opening.

Measure the opening
Follow the measurement method shown for your selected installation position. Take the measurements at the points shown in the guide and record them exactly as instructed.
Do not estimate or round measurements unless the guide specifically tells you to. If an opening appears unusual, take the required photographs and use the support route rather than guessing.

Photographs matter
Your photographs help us understand the opening alongside your measurements. Take clear, well-lit photographs that show the whole opening and any details that could affect the shutter specification.
The configurator will tell you which photographs are required and provide examples of acceptable images.

Before you submit
- Check every measurement is recorded in millimetres.
- Check the width and height have not been swapped.
- Check the installation position is correct.
- Make sure photographs are clear and show the full opening.
- Add notes about anything unusual, such as handles, tiles, window boards or restricted access.
- Use the support route if you are unsure rather than entering a guess.
